As you are drawn in to this beautiful and tragic love story through the letters of one man, Alberto Moreno, to his beloved Hilda, you learn about the world as it then was including the difficulties and hardships he suffers during this travels on behalf of the company he is representing. Starting with his journey through Mexico during WW1, not long after the Mexican Revolution, and still brought with danger and continuing on a grueling trip lasting many months, through South America . He writes with such tenderness and patience to his darling Hilda about his activities, his travels, his concerns and fears for their well fare. The sense of loneliness and desolation while he waits for her replies to reach him is palpable. Sadly we will leave no such record behind for our children and grandchildren! by Patricia Leigh-Wood

This book quickly draws the reader into a past era where romance, gallantry and chivalry flourished. It is a poignant love story, made all the more touching since the letters were real. Alberto Moreno was a gifted, eloquent and prolific letter writer whom we come to know in the series of letters to his beloved Hilda. Vicki McGrath, daughter of Alberto and Hilda, expertly ties the collection together and fills in the gaps to transport the reader to another time.
