College Reading: What Every Student Must Know. Part I The Socratic Method of Teaching and Learning (Ch. 1-8) defines, illustrates, and demonstrates how to implement Socratic Seminars, Part II focuses on five basic questions of interpretation that cluster around Why are relationships of love and friendship so difficult to maintain?--When do you need family most? How important is a father, a mother, a brother, or a girlfriend in your life? When does romantic love grow into mature love? Who are your real friends? (Ch. 10-14). Part III asks Can we forget that we are human?--Is today’s technology as much a blessing as a curse?(15-16). Part IV asks How important is God in your life--Why do bad things happen to good people? How does someone cope with the death of a child? Why does law sometime fail to achieve justice? Do we all have the same unconditional right to life? (Ch. 17-21). In each chapter, two Great Book authors take up a basic interpretive question followed by related nonfiction readings.
