Chowilawu is a very short story centered around a lone cowboy created by his past. He begins life as an American tossed aside by his mother, adopted by the Hopi, and then transformed into a new being. Chowilawu is a take on American Westward expansion and the tragic beauty of our endless search for horizons. Written in beautifully passive prose, Chowilawu would add itself to the Hemmingway, Cather, McCarthy cannon, and cause explosions amongst genre borders, if it were to be expanded into a novel.
