Graff Czary is addicted to motion, as if mobility will prevent the finality of his failure. In his alienation he observes the controversies and marginalities of contemporary Europe. He sees through the malaise of tired western society, and in turn finds himself rejected - by women, publishers and the banks, to start with. Despite his detachment from the society he mirrors it - his incessant motion reflects absence of bond to land or people, a delusional byproduct of globalisation.
Muted and alone he searches for humaneness in autobiographical texts of his favourite writers, but also in random encounters. He realizes that he is one of many equally desperate individuals. Incapable of reaching out to their fellow humans they turn to art - even in subtle forms like pronouncing softly one particular word.
