This is a terrific book to read to elementary school age children before bedtime and maybe even create a little fun and games story telling of your own with your family. My father was "that" Hilly Pilly growing up and now I'm able to read this book to my kids and we have started some great traditions of our own. We often forget that the high light of our kids day (and childhood) is the precious "silly" time that we as parents are able to spend with them.

It is a very enjoyable read for both kids & adults. Reminds me of my childhood & how we enjoyed the silliness of things.

This is a great story to read to your children. Incorporating one of life's biggest lessons and even including a silly dad, is all to relatable for my kids. I would recommend this book to anyone!

This is a beautifully illustrated story of a silly dad who disguises himself as Hilly Pilly with flowered boxer shorts, four ties and mismatched shoes and socks. He arrives at the door and tells his four kids corny, bedtime jokes like, "What do you get when you mix a duck with fireworks?" "WHAT?" the kids ask. "A fire quacker!" The kids eat it up and ask for one joke after another. Finally, Hilly Pilly makes a big performance out of going down the stairs and out the front door. But the next morning, the oldest child learns the true identity of Hilly Pilly and the value of a white lie. Don't miss the "About the Author" at the end of the book--probably the most inspiring real-life story a child will ever read. You'll learn how Wayne Lobdell, the author, was born in a bare basement apartment and was told by a teacher he "would never amount to anything." Fortunately, her harsh words motivated him. He drew on a tremendous work ethic,... More > smarts, and a wonderful girlfriend (and then wife) to ultimately become a restaurant owner with more than 2000 employees! His advice for kids, like find one more chore to do than you're asked, is invaluable. My advice: buy Wayne's "Climb from the Cellar, a tremendous read.< Less
