Several of my friends are Parkinson patients, so I am well-acquainted with the crippling effects of the disease. When I saw the title, I was slighly annoyed. How would anyone want to call this terrible affliction his "friend"? I had to know, and immediately ordered the book. As soon as I started reading it, I had a hard time putting it down. "My friend Parkinson" is not a medical account of the symptoms of the illness and its progression. It is a captivating series of short stories featuring the author's relationship to a man called Parkinson, a personification of the illness who has taken complete control of his life. How can he deal with this tyrannical companion who pretends to be his friend? How can he cope with his constant presence? What I found so fascinating, it that each one of the short chapters gives a different answer to the same riddle, often amusing, sometimes tragic, always engaging. "My friend Parkinson" takes his readers inside the head... More > and body of a Parkinson's patient to make his daily struggle your own. No matter whether you are suffering from the disease or not, this book will change the way you look at chronical illnesses in your own life, or in the life of people around you. It is a life-changing reading experience. A must-read!< Less
