I have to admit I was waiting a long time to read this book for personal reasons so my anticipaction level was high. Cootie did not dissapoint. The personal stories of the main characters weaving throughout the most significant World event of the 20th Century was completed flawlesley by the author. I enjoyed the viewpoint of basing the story on a person of obviuosly flawed character and how that person touched many other lives through a common horrific journey that none could escape. The author took personal history and weaved it into the story for an excellent balance between great war/action narratives and character development. Right up front you understand you are not dealing with the typical Audy Murphy hero type and Cootie is certainly a person to be despised. However, you can see that the characters who come into the story and their distinctive perspectives eventually mold him into the man he was destined to be. The story sucked me right in and I forgot it was a novel, and I am... More > actually looking for more. What did happen to all these people after they went home? If you enjoy great character development woven into just a really good story, Cootie Schofield is one I think you will enjoy. So, taking the advice of a person I absolutley respect to keep it simple, I have to say "I really liked this book"! When is the next one coming out? Chuck Sparks< Less
