This easy to read book is a great conversation starter for anyone engaged in youth work specifically targeting African Americans. The book touches upon important misconceptions and misinformation that has been promulgated by mainstream society, especially as it relates to an appreciation and an acknowledgment of African contributions to and influence in Western society. More importantly, it is a starting piece to help youth of African descent build their self esteem, self awareness and critical thinking skills as Everett begins the process of building the bridge from African American’s African past to their presence in American society.
