William James Linton was a craftsman born in an England ruled by land-owning despots and capitalist money-grubbers - pursuers of individual greed, as opposed to human need.
He became active in political affairs, involving himself in the workers' struggle for universal suffrage and a democratic Britain, through his involvement in the Chartist Movement. A prolific writer covering political affairs, novels and memoirs, he also wrote and illustrated children's books.
