Sep 8, 2018Don't waste your money on this book. I bought this book because I was interested in Red Shoulders as a falconry bird, but one page in and I could tell this was going to be a hard read. This book is in sore need of a good editor. William Sanders writes like a granny on facebook, that is, in all CAPS all the time unnecessarily. The numerous grammatical errors, terrible chapter organization and the passive-agressive tone does not help either. He does however interest you in his subject and presents a few neat alternative training methods that could work for just about any hunting bird, but after wading through the terrible writing and gleaning the few bits of good info, you'll find that his "apex" bird catches one chukar and then dies. A good falconer would trap more and keep studying them, but William Sanders, trying so desperately to make a mark on a community that uses him as a meme, goes out and writes a terrible book. I joined his FB group to get more info on these neat... More > little birds and to see proof of their hunting prowess. There were a few pics of them on squirrels and rabbits, but in the middle of the hunting season you would expect this apex predator to be killing left and right, but no. Most of the members were glorified pet keepers with a few exceptions, and William Sanders went on an ALL CAPS tirade at least once a day against his haters. Don't take it from William Sanders, take it from an actual RS. Go get one, spend time with it. You might hate it or love it. You might find they aren't cut out for falconry, or, you might discover some hidden potential. But please, train a few and catch some serious game before writing a book.< Less
Feb 1, 2018This book was inspirational for me. It inspired me to forgo a RedTail Hawk in my second apprentice year and take my first Red Shoulder. Although, I've only had my hawk for two days, I'm excited to use many of the techniques explained in this book. As the popularity in Red Shoulders grows, I will be eager to read "RED SHOULDER HAWKS FOR FALCONRY Vol. 2" in the near future. God Bless-
Dec 13, 2017Bought this book to compliment my falconry books and assist me with my red shouldered hawk, as I was having great difficulty with. The book helped me greatly I found it containing very useful information and helped me gain a better insight to what I was doing wrong with my bird. After reading and applying this knowledge my bird finally found her inner self and likeep a light switch turned on she was after her game with a fierce attitude. This book also explained some different techniques like the jangoli as well as the bowl as well as making the hawk use her brain to think by using some games which she seems to like.. I own a red shouldered hawk and they truly are the apex game hawk..
Sep 6, 2017We just got this new revised book in stock here at Mike's Falconry and it has a great wealth of information about the Red Shoulder hawk. Great color and black and white pictures. A beautiful hardbound book that has about twice the pages than the first edition. This book offers so much help for any falconer that is looking to train a Red Shoulder hawk. I completely recommend getting and reading this book.
Aug 30, 2017This book has some interesting chapters dealing with several Asian arts. These could be used for anyone flying any bird, not just the red shouldered hawk. If you have an interest in flying the red shouldered hawk or on some of the obscure, in the US, art forms, I recommend this book
