How Way Leads on to Way: Stories from Around the World highlights the traveling experiences of William Sartore over the course of his unique international journey which began in 2007. From the clear blue water of the Carribean to the green hills of East Africa, South African wine country to the rice fields of Vietnam, Will tells his story of experiencing the world through a collection of essays written at various points along the way. Keeping in mind the words of Robert Frost’s The Road not Taken and the idea of “how way leads on to way,” Will’s narrative focuses on the continuity of travel, of how experiences are connected with each other, and how events have a way of returning full circle.

‘How Way Leads On To Way’ is Will Sartore’s account of some of his most enjoyable, unexpected and unusual international travel experiences over the past few years. With a tilt of the cap to Robert Frost, Sartore marvels at the unpredictable nature of travel by reflecting on the ups, the downs, the frustrations, and the pure joys of his experiences. He shares stories from the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Vietnam, Rwanda, South Korea and elsewhere, without ever staying in one place for too long. The book’s strength is in Sartore’s refusal to follow the customary chronological and linear account pattern found in most travel narratives. Rather, he focuses on his personal thoughts and reflections, and introduces us to places, people and moments that best demonstrate them. We are able to follow his impromptu meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, his improbable opportunity to deliver a lecture at the United Nations in New York, and his sudden urge to bungee-jump in South Africa. He... More > takes us on journeys through the Sumatran jungle, the Mekong Delta’s back roads, the stunning temples of Angkor Wat, and the beautiful lands found ‘under African skies’. Perhaps the most moving chapters, however, centre on chance encounters with ordinary people such as Toan, Hiep, and children living in Dominican and Vietnamese orphanages, reminding him (and us) that humanity is truly global and that travel can be full of very humbling and rewarding experiences. ‘How Way Leads On To Way’ is a fast-paced account of the travels of an enthusiastic and outgoing individual whose appreciation for his opportunity to see the world is both genuine and infectious. For anyone with an interest in travel and adventure, and for those who appreciate its challenges and wonders, this set of tales comes recommended.< Less
