Brian and Nichelle, Kenny and Kendra, the central characters, all have solid marriages and unshakeable faith in God. They deal with their problems in a mature and sometimes creative manner. Having thought they’d laid most of their issues of the past to rest, some come back to haunt them while some come back out of guilt. They are a group of good people, with interesting backgrounds, some came all the way up from nothing but they all still hold onto their morals and good values. Their faith gets tested in many ways but they have their friends, old and new, as well as each other and their families to get them through. I’ve reviewed as far back as Sleepaway Innocence and I’ve paid attention to many of the details of the stories of all the characters and a lot of them are a great example of how life is lead with God showing you some of your path and when you allow God’s love to show through you to other people, like for example, the kindness Nichelle shows to Valerie and her son. Among... More > the many scenes in this book, that one was one of true kindness and selflessness. The real scene for me personally was with Nichelle, her step-daughter Chyra and Nadia, the misplaced child in need of care. It hit me so much that I actually cried a bit, which is odd for me when I’m reading. I’ve also dealt with caring for a child whose mother I did not get along with. It only took me a day or two of almost uninterrupted reading to get through its 600+ pages, so it gets a 5. I’ll be reading it again on a road trip soon. Sunshine Harvey - Ghostwriterreviews< Less

This story of four people and those closest to them, is a great example of how marriages and complications can be handled realistically and in a healthy manner. Nichelle and Brian have a healthy marriage in that they may have their disagreements but one doesn't feel the need to leave the other at the first sign of disagreement or difficulty. They talk out their problems in a calm and mature manner and they have their inside jokes and secrets that maintains their intimacy with each other. Kenny and Kendra find their faith in God and life itself tested and strengthened when faced with a major crisis. They cling to God and each other and grow even closer. I'd give this book to people who are struggling in a marriage or who are trying to create struggle in a marriage, for both, it would be an example of how people strong in God can handle anything and not be torn apart.
