*Note-
If you don’t have the time or expertise to publish and distribute an eBook, but you have your manuscript ready to go, this service is right for you. The eBook Publishing Package is ideal if you're looking for cover design, expertise in file conversion, and a project coordinator to walk you through the publishing process. You are provided an ISBN and distribution to our eBook retail partners.?
No, but success rate can be positively impacted by following the requirements specified in the Lulu eBook Retail Distribution Guidelines. Adherence will highly increase the likelihood of acceptance by the distribution channel. Your project coordinator will advise you on any issues found during the introductory service call.
As a first-time author, the publishing process can be a lot to absorb. Our services provide detailed instructions on what you need to provide to us. As the author who is self publishing, you are the publisher. This means you will have to prepare your files for Lulu's team of experts to work on. We will work with your manuscript content, exactly as you provide it to us. Please review the eBook Retail Distribution guidelines (link here) to ensure your files are ready to be submitted through our distribution channels. We will convert your file to EPUB format; however, the source file must not have elements that would disqualify it from submission. If you have any questions prior to purchase, please contact one of our publishing consultants by filling out the form on the right-hand side of this page.
Your project coordinator will help to keep every project on track. This work includes coordinating the individual creative team members working on your book. As the publisher, you are the main contributor to the project, so we will expect that you will attend to your project accordingly. The time you take to respond back to our questions, approve files and make decisions is included in the overall time-line.
Conversion to EPUB from a Word document takes 1-2 weeks; conversion to EPUB from PDF can take 3-4 weeks, dependent upon complexity. Once all of the files are approved, publishing your eBook project takes 1-2 business days.
You will receive your marketing image file as a jpg. You will receive your EPUB file as a result of the manuscript being converted. Both files will be provided in the My Files section of your lulu.com account.
If you have a deadline, please contact one of our publishing consultants prior to purchasing a service to see if we can meet your needs. If you have already purchased your service and have a deadline, or your time-line has changed, please let your project coordinator know immediately. We cannot guarantee we can meet your deadline. We will do everything we can to accommodate your needs.
Unfortunately, no. We require that the entire manuscript and all chapters be assembled in one document. You can simply copy and paste the files into one document.
Yes, you can publish for free. We provide Word to EPUB conversion free of charge through our publishing wizard. You are able to create your own marketing image during that same publishing process. Our professional publishing services are available to anyone in need of assistance with pre-publishing. If you want you can do your own pre-publishing and then upload your files in your Lulu account and publish the book. You will be entirely responsible for meeting all formatting requirements associated with distribution. The Lulu Professional Services team is trained to make all ebooks retail and distribution ready, making this a seamless process for you.
No. If you like the layout of your book, you can take your image and content files and upload them to your Lulu.com account and publish on your own. Please note that PDF documents will not be converted to EPUB in our publishing wizard; therefore, your eBook would not qualify for distribution through Lulu. Our publishing packages are available for publishers that need us to do the work for them.
Our professional publishing team is available Monday - Friday from 9am-5pm EST.
It can take 1-2 business days. Typically, we get back sooner, but keep in mind that depending on your question, your project coordinator may have to speak with another team member (i.e. marketing image designer, conversion specialist, etc.) to get the answer to your question, so please be patient.

Partnering with Lulu has been incredibly empowering for me, especially as a first-time author.
The collaboration with Lulu's recommended illustrator was creatively exhilarating. The Lulu editor's comments were accurate and helpful; it was invaluable to have a truly objective set of eyes read a manuscript and provide feedback. Online management keeps things well-organized and on-task. My favorite part about self-publishing, however, is that I can retain ultimate decision-making and responsibility.
