Soft Tissue

Exhibition catalogue of "Soft Tissue: Sculpture and Works on Paper by YaYa Chou" at Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne, IN, USA, 2010. This catalogue includes an essay by Sarah Aubrey, Curator of American Art at Fort Wayne Museum of Art, artist statement, 18 plates of water color drawings and 13 plates of sculpture. Inspired by anatomy illustrations, Chou re-interprets the meaning of organs by combining western terminology and eastern philosophy with detail rendered drawing and intuitive writing. Glass sculpture hand blown according to artist's original maquettes, as well as other lab and household glass containers represent human and plant organs. Each vessel houses found/natural objects, body parts and handmade small sculptures; some embellished with either one word, one phrase or a poem. They depict life events shared by common human and animal experience of existence.
