If you grew up with the cornerstones of geekdom (and this term is used with pride), then you will definitely catch the winks and nudges. It's not a rehash, it's not a re-telling of anything--it is fresh and new and eager to get you to follow along. It may be cliche to say that the characters have their own charms and their own flaws, but it is not in the least cliche to actually mean that. No one is super-human and no one is going to shatter like glass; there is a realism and a dimension to the characters and the situations, while at the same time having a few side-swiping moments. In short, I enjoyed myself immensely. And that's about all I can say without spoilers, whew.
