Nature's Way

We rise and fall
Like the moon,
The ocean, wide in all its glory.
Like each day, a finished story,
We rise and fall.

We rise, though many fall
Against the rushing, raging madness.
Through the thick, uncaving sadness,
We rise.
We rise, though many fall.

At last, we fall,
Much like the setting sun, in all its splendor,
Or fiery leaves in late September,
And remember
That it is Nature's way for all
To rise and fall.

Lie

A course
And sharpened tongue
That claimed Love,
That vowed Truth
And Repect
Now licks my plate dry
Of Dreams
And Direction
And spits the jagged pieces
Back at me.

The Roses

A sudden somberness
In June-
Not unlike casting ones own feet
Among a garden of thorns,
I have seen so many roses
Blindly pluck at their own petals
One by one by one,
Nature's given beauty
Spilling back into the ground.
Like the fate of those forgotten in the frost,
Their stems left standing
Rigid and dry, browned
In the fierce glare of the midday sun
While others counted their days
So few
From the cold grips of a
Centerpiece vase.
But then again, that's where vanity
Takes you.
It's so easy to hang onto the bush,
To end with each season and
Simply rely on its return.
But so many roses
Sever themselves in midseason
Over empty hopes for
So much more.

Parting

You call to me from the front porch
Of your ocean.
Your voice in a distant,
Fuzzy somewhere
Trails to me in desperation,
For my waves have threatened
To crash
Upon your shore
No more.
