Nordette Adams, Aberjhani and the Rahkyt
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
The Goddess: Nordette Adams grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, but currently resides in New Jersey. She is a published journalist, fiction writer, poet and former magazine publisher. Increasingly, her poems such as "He Did Not Say F*** Them Out" as well as compositions like “Color,” expressing admiration for African-American men, draw attention around the Internet. Her many admirers include college students who have checked out her open mic presentations and intellectuals who have referenced her work in scholarly papers. She was a featured subject interviewee for Poetry Life and Times, and her poem, "Hurricanes of Roosting Birds," which she wrote in retrospective for the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, was published in the autumn 2006 edition of The Adagio Verse Quarterly.
THE SKYLARK: Aberjhani is the only known author on public record to have produced both a critically acclaimed work of nonfiction, Encyclopedia of The Harlem Renaissance (with Sandra L. West) and now a CD of modern spoken word. He is also the author of the recently released e-book, Visions of a Skylark Dressed in Black, The Wisdom of W.E.B. Du Bois and I Made My Boy Out of Poetry. Winner of the 2006 Connect Savannah Reader's Poll Award for Best Poet/Spoken Word Artist, the Savannah native over the past decade has gained an audience of readers as well as listeners. In addition to drawing standing ovations during performances at the Savannah Civic Center , and heritage and literary festivals, he has also entertained on television, radio, and the Internet.
RAHKYT: Mark Rockeymoore is a husband, father of three, author, spoken word artist and PhD candidate at Texas State-San Marcos. He is also the man behind music and production of The Goddess and The Skylark: Dancing Through the Word Labyrinth. Rahkyt produces beats for Urban Poets and Griots of all stripes, looking forward to the day when Urban Poetry is heard on the radio with the same regularity as booty-shaking Hip Hop. He is currently working hard to complete his dissertation research so he can continue working on the musical, artistic and writing projects with which he hopes to make a mark upon the creative world of the soul's expression.
