The family originates from a location in Derbyshire, which in the thirteenth century was called Lindop. When Robert, the son of Henry de Leyis, settled there he was known as Robert of Lindop (Robert... More > de Lyndoppe). Clearly he was the first person to use that surname and therefore this book charts the Lindop Family right to its origins. The cover photograph is taken from Calton where Robert was born overlooking Lindop Wood. It is located near Edensor and is managed by the Chatsworth Estate who now own the land. The author traces the family as it moved to Wybunbury, in Cheshire, and then through Flintshire to his own branch of the family that set up a draper's business in Chester. He also traces the Lindops who were fishmongers in Liverpool and discovers other miscellaneous fragments of the family history.< Less
