About
Jack Barnhart and Robert Schanke
As early as high school, Jack Barnhart (left in photo) converted an abandoned barn into a barn theatre in Ohio that drew capacity crowds for five summers. Later, he ran a semi-professional theatre program outside Chicago at Illinois Benedictine University for ten years before becoming a superstar Realtor in the western suburbs. His most recent career was for the state of Iowa as a social worker in mental health. An award-winning college theatre professor, Robert Schanke coedited three volumes of LGBT theatre artists and wrote several biographies: Shattered Applause: The Lives of Eva LeGallienne, That Furious Lesbian: The Story of Mercedes de Acosta, and Queer Theatre and the Legacy of Cal Yeomans. Jack and Bob met in 1984 and were married in 2009.
