Proton Beam Therapy is advanced cancer treatment that is not well known. It is not widely recommended by the medical community because there are currently only five hospitals in the U.S. that have the extremely expensive and complex equipment to administer it. Proton Beam Therapy has been used in the United States since 1990 with success comparable to all other options, but this non-invasive treatment has minimal side effects. It may be beneficial for many other cancers so long as the disease has not metastasized, and even then it may help when used with other treatments. Medicare and most insurance companies provide coverage.
