The performer talks about a secret wartime society set up to investigate psychic phenomena. Alleged to have carried out... More > thousands of experiments during this time, the performer claims to have got his hands on the original instructions for one such experiment issued by the ʻInstitute Of Psychical Phenomenaʼ that uses nothing more than a pack of playing cards and a few volunteers.

The performer produces the document in question and invites someone to read out the twenty step-by-step instructions for the experiment. The performer promises to follow the instructions as closely as possible for the entire procedure.

A pack of cards is shown to be mixed throughly leaving the audience in no doubt that the cards are randomised and the performer has seen none of the card faces.

Two spectators choose a card under test conditions, including further shuffles by themselves, yet later on in the experiment each is able to pick out their counterpartʼs card with their eyes closed by touch / feel / ʻempathyʼ alone. < Less

About Julian Moore

The Cold Reading Company has been producing mentalism and readings titles for many years. It all began with 'Post Justify', Julian Moore's first book on mentalism, showing many devious ways of using post-it notes for gaining information, as well as many other uses for these devious stickies.

After that came a raft of readings books covering palmistry, graphology and now cartomancy (fortune telling with playing cards). Most of the readings books come included with an audiobook version. Written for mentalists wanting to add cold reading to their routines, 'The James Bond Cold Reading' became a big success.

With the palm reading and graphology methods there are accompanying 'tick sheets' that can be bought separately.

Julian has also written 'The Imp Chair Test', 'Empirical Empathy', 'Going Underground' and 'Dodgy Money' - four other mentalism routines that have been well received by the mentalism and magic community.
