He was a farmer, soldier, womanizer, lover, inventor and a man of many adventures. He was married four times without ever divorcing any of his previous wives. As a mechanical engineer he worked for Igor Sikorsky, the helicopter pioneer, and also was a consulting engineer for the Navy at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyards on the USN Submarine The Thresher. His life was astonishing, but he left his first three wives to fend for themselves as well as abandoning the 14 children.

John L. Donovan is a 30 year veteran of the United States Air Force. He and his wife Judy live in Post Falls, Idaho along with their son Mark. John is an expert genealogist and has worked his family back to the 1500's. He is very active in genealogy and is avaiable for hire. The book he authored is about his father, William L. Donovan, Aka William Peterson, who married four ladies without ever divorcing any of them. He fathered 14 children, and deserted all of the children and three of his four wives. He was a mechanical engineer and worked for such great persons as Igor Sikorsky. the father of the helicopter. He also worked on the Trident submarine in Portsmouth, New Hamshire. His background was of Acadian extraction; and fought in the WW1 in France. The Acadian history is well known as well as the ones who settled in Louisanna, known as the Cajans.
