I have always been a black and white guy, thinking primarily in terms of values, light and shadow rather than color. In 1972, when I started working as an illustrator art directors were casting about for black and white art that would work well in newspapers, notorious for hastily produced half tone separations and poor quality reproduction. Line art like mine always printed well so it was a perfect fit.
My more recent work is still graphic, but more relaxed in tone, more conversational. The small books here at Lulu are collections related narrative imagery, both drawn and photographic. They are at times funny, or
strange, or touching... a reflection of what's going on in my head.
Over the years my work has been recognized by by the Societies of Illustators in NY and LA, NY and LA, NY and LA Art Directors Clubs, Communcation Arts, Print, Graphis, AIGA, Society of Typographic Arts, Society of Publication Designers, The One Show, Clio Awards and European Illustration, to name a few.
