My name is Liz Pritchard. I am a 22-year-old college student in Western New York, and I am studying art and psychology. My goal is to work with young children on the autism spectrum through art... More > therapy programs. As an individual with high-functioning autism and mental illness, art has always provided a healthy outlet for me to express my frustrations and anxieties when words were too difficult to express. I want to help other individuals like me by helping them find their voice, as art has helped me find my voice. This story takes place in an unknown realm that reflects the characters' psyche, which is far from reality. As the individuals learn to separate their anxieties from what is real, then they can make it back to reality. “Fadeaway” and “Parallels” focuses a lot on self-doubt, learning to cope with it, and coming to terms with it. Even though doubt is intangible, it doesn't and shouldn't negate how real it is to myself and many others.< Less

As the climax of this chapter in the story unfolds, the characters find where their reality lies as they realize their own individual life purpose. This story arc signifies a new beginning, as the two characters go their separate ways. These works illustrate individual aspects of my life that are critical to my overall sense of who I am as an individual. For example, my self-doubt is a part of who I am, but it doesn't define me. My conditions are also a part of who I am, but they don't define me. These pieces of me can either build a solid foundation for me to stand on, or tear me apart – if I let them.< Less
