I'm a retired first grade teacher, who finally has the time to write. I taught 1st, 2nd and reading resource for over 35 years, mostly for Baltimore City Schools. The last 20 years of my career, were spent teaching first grade in Baltimore City. At that time, the city was using homogeneous grouping of students in the first and second grades. I asked if I could teach the lowest section and use the skills I had acquired during the four years teaching reading resource.
The workbooks came about from worksheets that I had designed for my reading resource and first grade classes. I had accumulated tons of sight word and phonics lessons. K-1teachers at my school asked if I'd share my phonics and sight word lessons, which I gladly did. They also encouraged me to write these workbooks.
The newest book, 'Alphatalk Street,' is a fun way to teach the ABC's and the basic sound each letter makes. Great for the 3-6 year old who is ready to learn the alphabet!
