These poems are still fitted for performance and best heard when read out loud. Where appropriate I have also given some performance instructions. In the end though I do hope that whilst recognizing my voice, be assured that it is my deep desire that these poems also become a carrier wave for your very own and very distinct voice to be discovered.

The Word ‘Crack’ is not just a Cocaine derivative but also has reference to fun, frivolity, joviality, hilarity and... More > having a good time. If what someone said to you just “just cracked you up,” then more than likely, you were bent over double laughing! Contrary to that of course, sometimes the seriousness of life often breaks through the small defense of humor, so much so that the weight of problems placed on the heart and mind, can often leave you with a sense that you are losing your mind, your marbles, your capacity to cope. In this sense as well, I am sure we have all felt that we are “Cracking Up”
I have always maintained that life, death, men’s brown woolen socks, infinity and eternity are all far too serious matters to approach without a touch of humor, a touch of wit, a touch of Jesus in the night, that is more light than heavy, more loving and laughing than morbid and miserable! < Less

I was tempted when producing this second edition of I49 & Other Roads, to introduce the same written format of explanation... More > as used in my later works. However, I have refrained from adding any poetic preamble and want to these poems to arrive in both your mind and heart, raw, red in tooth and claw. As I have consistently said, “Poetry is for the stage and not the page”. Indeed, these are indeed performance pieces, well honed and delivered at places like the Brighton Festival Fringe, slam poetry meetings, coffee shop exposes and other like venues. As a Pastor, I have found them to make an echo in many other peoples hearts and like the Psalmist of old, that sweet singer of Israel, I have found the echo without explanation, has within itself an efficacy in the displacing of loneliness.
