History of Jewish Christianity By R' Yaakov Bar Yosef & H Schonfield

Among histories of Christianity there has long existed a gap, which either has passed unnoticed or has been deemed of little consequence by Christian scholars. It is only where this gap is at its... More > narrowest, in the early days of the Church, that any consideration has been paid to it, and then the treatment of the subject involved, the life and faith of primitive Jewish Christianity, has been of the most partial character. A common judgment has been expressed by the late Dr. Hort in his lectures on Judaistic Christianuy. He describes the Jewish Church as; “a natural product of the circumstances of the Apostolic Age, living on for some generations, and that probably not without times of revival, but becoming more and more evidently a futile anachronism as the main body of the Church grew up into a stately tree in the eyes of all men; and at length dying naturally away.”< Less

The Jerusalem Talmud (Hebrew: תַּלְמוּד יְרוּשָׁלְמִי, Talmud... More > Yerushalmi, often Yerushalmi for short) is a collection of Rabbinic notes on the 2nd-century Jewish oral tradition know as the Mishnah."The Instruction", "learning." The Jerusalem Talmud was compiled in the Land of Israel during the 4th-5th centuries CE, then divided between the Byzantine provinces of Palaestina Prima and Palaestina Secunda. The Jerusalem Talmud is also known as the Palestinian Talmud or Talmud de-Eretz Yisrael (Talmud of the Land of Israel). These latter names are considered more accurate by some because, while the work was certainly composed in "the West" (i.e. the Holy Land), it originates from the Galilee area rather than from Jerusalem< Less

Rabbinical Translations of Matthew By Rav Yaakov Bar Yosef
eBook (ePub): $14.99

Matthew in the list of Apostles, usually pairing him with St. Thomas, the New Testament offers scanty and uncertain information about him. Outside the New Testament, a statement of importance about... More > him is the passage from the Apostolic Father Papias of Hierapolis preserved by Bishop Eusebius of Caesarea: “So then Matthew composed the Oracles in the Hebrew language, and each one interpreted them as he could.” The Gospel According to Matthew was certainly written for a Jewish-Christian church in a strongly Jewish environment, but that this Matthew is definitely the synoptic author is seriously doubted. Tradition notes his ministry in Judaea, after which he supposedly missioned to the East, suggesting Ethiopia and Persia. Legend differs as to the scene of his missions and as to whether he died a natural or a martyr’s death. Matthew’s relics were reputedly discovered in Salerno (Italy) in 1080. His symbol is an angel.< Less
