TRACKING THE PIONEERS III: A History of Workman Families of Southern West Virginia
The first Workman families to settle in what is now considered southern West Virginia were descendants of Joseph and Phoebe (M’Ray) Workman, who came from Pennsylvania and eventually settled at Burkes Garden in Wythe County, Virginia. Their progeny spread to Kanawha, Logan, Boone, Wayne, Wyoming, Raleigh and adjacent counties in West Virginia and Kentucky. This book follows those descendants from their first appearances in the records on into the twentieth century.
Each of Joseph Workman, Sr’s sons and one daughter are considered individually in separate chapters. Genealogical coverage is given in descendancy charts and accompanying text. Marriage, birth, death, military and census records are presented in numerous charts and tables. Personal property, land and tax records are included to supplement the census records.
