Chris Sullivan
I was born in the hard bitten, cockney enclave that was the East End of London on 21st January 1952. My parents moved to Wimbledon when I was 18 months old seeking a safer and more pastoral way of life. Greener it certainly was but alas it wasn't safer. My childhood soon became a constant struggle. But I grew up quickly and developed a self preservation tool against adversity. It was called a sense of humour. At grammar school my unseasoned rump soon developed a close relationship with a two foot stick called the 'cane.' I escaped at 17, flitting around a few unsuitable jobs before becoming a Foreign Exchange Broker at 20. Shortly afterwards my character was tested once more. Moneybroking afforded me a lifestyle I could only dream of as a child from a council estate. But that's where I learnt to play guitar and sing. Parallel to my career I sang in pubs, performed stand up comedy to sporting and corporate audiences and wrote poems and songs. I married at 33 and spent nine mostly joyful years before we separated. We divorced 5 years later. I was made redundant from broking after 25 years and became a film extra, comedian, gardener to the UK's largest drug importer, lorry driver and so on. I now live happily with Deborah in Surrey.

BROAD SOLDIERS - Tom Grove Goes Naked
Tom Grove sucks in his first breath in 1952 in London's East End. It's a poverty stricken area brimming with Cockney characters who are tough and sharp witted. When his parents move to Wimbledon for a new start events don't go to plan. Tom's life is thrown into turmoil. Tragedy, shock news from America, racy and comical escapades fill this account of Tom's uphill journey from boy to man. The book is littered with rhymes that capture poignant moments as well as humorous episodes in his fight for survival. When he becomes a high flying Trader in London's Money Market his lifestyle is transported to one of champagne and women. After losing it all he launches himself in to many ventures - stand up comedian, gardener to the UK's largest drug importer, film extra, lorry driver, etc. with some hilarious results. Despite constant setbacks Tom's character stands firm. This is a story of one man's ability to overcome adversity with humour and inspiration.
