My interest in this book is in the art of photography itself and Trice’s imagery doesn’t disappoint. Each image is a work in and of itself capturing a mood through composition, color and texture. The complete story of this abandoned mall is told through thought provoking imagery. My interpretation of the story being told through Trice’s photography of the skeletal remains of this sprawling suburban mall is one of over development, over consumption, and the over spending of a society that now has to change its ways. Each image tells a narrative of the “Aesthetics of Abandonment” in a unique interesting way. The book is a visual experience where beauty and irony can be found in a decaying mall site which was once purposeful with human activity and now is slowly being consumed by nature. Christopher Luhar-Trice presents a dynamic visual treat in this book of photography.

I became interested in abandoned shopping malls last year, when Southwyck mall in Toledo, Ohio, was torn down. Chris Luhar's wonderful dedication to Dixie Square mall is a lasting tribute to another mall that should never have died. My interest in Dixie was mainly because of the fact that this mall is still standing, after being abandoned for more than 30+ years! Chris Luhar's photos are fascinating and show the reader a real time capsule of this once beautiful and beloved Chicago landmark. Many, many thanks to Chris for so much hard work in publishing this book, and keeping Dixie square's memory alive. I look forward to another book by this author!

I have been a fan of Christopher W. Luhar-Trice's photography for many years, and I was thrilled when this book was published. I purchased a number of copies as gifts last year, and all of the recipients were very pleased. Although the book is small, the photos and captions that tell of the Dixie Square Mall are excellent. I hope to see another book by Mr. Trice in the very near future.
