An emerging global project, YRUHRN, created the first book designed, written, edited, marketed, and published using the wisdom of crowds involving over 1,000 people. YRUHRN is based on hundreds of people answering the question, “Why Are You Here – Right Now” via the Amazon service, Mechanical Turk.
When a man having coffee decided to post a question on an internet site, interesting things began to unfold. The question was, “Why are you here – right now?” Over 500 people answered the question for the price of a penny. When the man emailed people to ask if they would be interested in making this book, the response was positive and the energy was contagious. About 20 of these stay at home moms, artists, and professionals formed a team, the Ishidos. They agreed to donate one third of profits to help children affected by Hurricane Katrina, created a website at http://www.yruhrn.com and then set out to create the book.
