Good day! It has been a while on account of being at college and eating food that has been prepared for me as well as a horde of other hungry gamer-types. There hasn't been much in the way of culinary experimentation so far, other than realizing that very few dishes become less palatable with the addition of either chili garlic sauce or caramel. Posted on Tuesday 10 of October, 2006 [17:41:32 UTC] The deep-fried Snickers bar? It is all that I had hoped it to be. Posted on Saturday 09 of September, 2006 [23:12:09 UTC] The clean version of my convention notes that was mentioned in the last post are now available under the title Indigenous Vegetation, Lightly Braised in Cowboy Sauce (With a Side of Danger). I'm hoping to cook up some of that cowboy sauce as soon as possible. The only factor in my way is the complete absence of tomato paste. It would be an easily remedied problem if I were not moving back to Iowa in the coming days. Farewell, my Wisconsin of frequent cheeses! Farewell, my days of bountiful plums! Hello, leftovers! This evening's gluten-free pasta surprised me with its active flavor and how well it interacted with the chili. I intend to investigate this phenomenon to a greater extent. Posted on Friday 01 of September, 2006 [07:22:25 UTC] There's something to be said for serving already prepared foods in a fashion that brings out there strengths even if no mighty feats of kitchenwork are involved. My lunch today consisted of fresh blueberries in maple-flavored plain yogurt served with ginger Thai chips and a crusty bit of bread. In gaming news, I am working on compiling my notes from the Intergalactic Cooking Challenge demo that I ran at Gencon and punching them up. They will be available as a starting scenario within the month, free for download. Posted on Tuesday 22 of August, 2006 [18:11:46 UTC] Tonight's chicken skewers were a success. After being marinated in such fineries as ginger, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, jalapeno, and garlic, I grilled them and served them with an awful fish/lime sauce. My father saved the day on the sauce, quickly replacing it with a sweet peanut blend that absorbed the tang of the chicken's ginger with dutiful panache. The first batch of smoothies went better than the fish sauce, but it wasn't until round two that I managed a drink fit to complement the chicken. The individual components of cherry, banana, pineapple, and lime were difficult to discern, being too busy meshing with each other and bringing out a smooth fullness that transcending their individual fleshy bodies. During my periods of coherence, I was not at my most eloquent, but that appears to be a common observation of those who have gone and returned. Next year may reveal greater dignity and refinement based in ease and the desire to multi-task less, but any presentation related to The Ballad of Saucy Jack will throw that out the window. I think that there is a lot for me to take from the current state of small press gaming, even if I am yet unconvinced of the importance of clearly defined theory. Tomorrow I'm planning to prepare some chicken skewers with red chilis and a lime/fish sauce. They will lend a festive air to the cherry smoothies that have been in the works for some time. The preparations for GenCon have taken a little more energy than I expected, but everything is on track. I pressed some exclusive buttons, the bags are packed, and the only matter that needs to happen is tomorrow. Lately I have been experiencing banana spring rolls. These are made by wrapping bananas in spring roll wrappers, frying them up, and serving them with ice cream. From there several additional options present themselves, dessert sauce and fresh berries being the most apparent. Posted on Wednesday 09 of August, 2006 [09:21:53 UTC] My first game has gone gold, and the presses are hot. That isn't all that's hot though. It's summer, no matter how hard you try to hide from it. Try boiling lime juice, shredded ginger, and sugar and then chilling the resulting concoction for a stay-cool funtime. You see, I constantly became hungry for food beyond my standard fare while writing Intergalactic Cooking Challenge. It encouraged me to page through cookbooks and prepare fancier meals than I would have thought to on my own. In the days to come, I intend to report further on this phenomenon.
