RLB Hartmann's first short story "Tyler," was published by Far West magazine in 1978. "The Deadly Drop" was bought by a small literary magazine in Idaho. In January 2001 Hartmann's humorous entry took first place in the OSCAR at AbsoluteWrite.com. Also in 2001, a 1-page short story "It Wasn't My Idea" won the e-Shay Corporation first prize, a large Tiger Kite. The short story "Harvest" won the October 2002 contest at SellWritingOnline.com.

Hartmann has taught creative writing, served as Associate Editor of the online magazine AB Bookman's Weekly, and is Editor at Wombania.com.

A feature-length script, I RODE WITH CULLEN BAKER, won the Split-Screenplay $1000 competition in March 2001, and was in the Top 3 at American Zoetrope the following December. The novel version of this story is now available here at Lulu.

Hartmann recently collaborated with Jack Schaberg to write a feature film, WE KNOW CARE, an off-beat comedy. The premiere screening was held at the Lansing (MI) Mall Cinema, and there have been various showings in Michigan. This film is available on DVD (see email note below). Jack is currently filming his next project, in which I had a hand.

NEWEST VENTURE

A serialized novel STRONG COFFEE is currently running at www.shadowdaily.com

I Rode with Cullen Baker
During the War Between the States, a young Southern girl becomes romantically entangled with a notorious outlaw hiding out in the Sulphur River Country of East Texas. When 16-year-old Jessica loses her home and family, she's vulnerable to the charms of the reckless young man who rescues her. Believing that he will settle down after the war, Jess plans their future together. Cully's secret destroys those dreams, so she journeys to San Francisco to accept an inheritance arranged by her father. Here, Ed offers respectability through marriage, but an unexpected letter rekindles Jess's hope that she and Cully will share a life as thrilling as those days spent in outwitting their enemies.

Floyd and the Traveling Yard Sale
The Floyd stories depict life in some parts of the rural South as it was only a few years ago, and -- at least in my neck of the woods -- can never be again. Floyd's unique solutions to life's problems inspire 13-year-old Josie to relate the misadventures of her friend as he deals with bureaucrats, "dibbies", a mini-pig -- and more.

Set largely in the mountain region between Tennessee and North Carolina, these 16 stories offer encounters with Charlie the Circus Cat, a one-of-a-kind yard sale, Josie's (and Floyd's) triumph at the Rock Creek graduation, his watch possum, and the April picnic you won't soon forget.

Ex-moonshiner and entrepeneur, Floyd can (as Mawie once put it) "make a cat laugh." Rich in imagery and best read aloud, FLOYD AND THE TRAVELING YARD SALE is a perfect gift for the storytellers and readers in your life.
