Icons

This collection of photographs is an account of my European travels over the period of a summer, cataloging 20 different cities in 8 different countries. The work explores the question “what determines an icon?” The majority of the photographs in the collection are products of post processed high-dynamic-range techniques, which have allowed photography to evolve beyond a mere means of representation, but instead enter a realm where the work is able to pick up an ambient and painterly nature. I have crafted the atmospheres of each photograph in order to best represent the energy of each respective city and to shape a lens for viewing them in a specific way. The icons depicted range from esteemed historic monuments to cultural products and social interactions.
