Frames is a series of images that explores various relationships between viewer, television, film, character, and media. The images are composed of frames taken from the 80th Annual Academy Awards broadcast that are then layered on top of each with an equal amount of transparency between layers. Each image represents an award recipient's nomination clip. The series also includes a commercial intermission that was part of the live television broadcast. Through the layering of frames, lines begin to blur – physical lines as well as the structural lines that separate film from media and character from actor. The viewer can now simultaneously observe the object, or subject, being depicted as well as the constructs that create and deliver this depiction. Frames furthers the observer's understanding of the way images are presented to us, the institutions and mechanics that create these images, and the role that those images currently play in our society.
