Slot Car Magazine – JANUARY 2021, issue 59

ByMarc AbbottRic Woods

Hello Everyone! Despite the unexpectedly enthusiastic response to Marc’s editorial in the last issue, you’ve got me again this time. However, to those who particularly enjoyed Marc’s effort, I can assure both of you that he will almost certainly be allowed to do it again in the future. I think wishing you all a better New Year rather than a happy one might be a more realistic goal, but 2020 did set the bar rather low, didn’t it? Without wishing to sound too creepy, I should say how much we appreciate that, despite the difficult circumstances that everyone was having to endure, the articles kept coming in from our contributors throughout the year. What a fantastic effort, and please keep it up! I enjoyed Marc moaning on about modern life in general in his editorial, to the point where I was inspired to have a go myself. Now I realise that I’m up against it a bit in trying to get anyone to feel sorry for a magazine editor, especially given the adulation, monetary rewards and high social status that naturally come with the job, but there’s one thing niggles me every month… In the old days, we had companies with names such as Scalextric, Monogram, Revell, Champion and so on. One word, with a capital letter at the beginning because it’s a so-called ‘proper’ noun. Now, every month I spend valuable time double checking if the name is two words, one word, one word with a capital letter in the middle – or just randomly placed. I’m sure Thunderslot started out as two words. Is Teamslot one or two? I’ve seen both! RevoSlot is one, but with a capital in the middle – I think. So, if you are thinking that 2021 is the year to start your world-dominating slot car company, please could you just give it one old-fashioned simple name, with a capital letter at the beginning? Thanks. I hope you enjoy this issue of slOtCarMagaZine. Yep, that works.
