Columbia University’s Studio Skyline represented two clients, Manhattan Community Board 7 and Landmark West!. Their research focused on balancing preservation and development using the tools of planning and zoning on the Upper West Side. Preservation of the iconic Central Park West skyline was at the intersection of the clients’ concerns, but the studio expanded their research to a larger debate about the impact of planning on neighborhood character. The studio’s primary goal was to develop an integrated approach that considers community input and regulatory recommendations to proactively shape future growth.
