This solo guitar composition is a condensed version of Bruce Paine’s advanced piece Finchdean, created to make the work accessible for intermediate players. While technically simplified, it retains the lyrical qualities and atmospheric character of the original. For comparison, the difficulty is slightly less demanding than Leo Brouwer’s Estudio Sencillos (Simple Study) No. 6. Inspired by the English countryside and the 14th-century chapel of St Hubert’s at Idsworth, Finchdean Intermediate captures the same sense of timeless serenity that has made the original Finchdean Bruce Paine’s most performed work worldwide.
