John Hurst was born in the UK in 1949. He has worked for 40 years in the Auto Industry for General Motors and Toyota. He worked for several years as the Director of GM Europe lean manufacturing implementation strategy. He was involved in leading implementation training activities in 15 European manufacturing Plants spread over 8 different countries. After a couple more decades of focussing on changing working practices and introducing lean manufacturing, the last decade as Works Manager, Vauxhall Motors, Ellemere Port assembly plant , John retired from General Motors. Within 3 months of his retirement John was approached by Toyota to carry out a three year assignment in their Burnaston Plant. During these three years John was able to understand how the management process works in Toyota and was able to identify why efforts in GM were struggling and where fundamental change is needed to support "Lean". This book is an attempt to share those learnings in a simple and practical manner
