MARY MAGDALENE AND THE OTHERS
Church, women, ministries in a living history
ByCOMUNITÀ CRISTIANA DI BASE DI SAN PAOLO
On the dawn of the XXI century a concern undergoes Catholicism: why the Church disregarded the model of Jesus towards women that, on the contrary, the early Christian communities were following?
Since the concept of priesthood – mediation between the human being and God – was not in the Jesus’ mind, why the Church introduced it, thus establishing a patriarchal and hierarchical structure?
The exclusion of women from the possibility of celebrating and officiating the Eucharist is a problem concerning only the religious sphere, or, in our society, also fostering an attitude that leads to discriminations and violence against women?
In Rome, a grassroots community is trying to realize a Church where women and men can break the bread reminding the Jesus’ words: “Do this in memory of me”.
Our practice finds support in the way of thinking of an increasing number of theologians around the world. Mary Magdalene comes again and announces Jesus’ Resurrection and spreads hope.
