
Brock Evans, Larry Williams, Rodney R Stubbs, Maradel Gale and other activits founded the Oregon Environmental Council in 1968. More than 80 organizations throughout the State joined the organization from the Oregon AFL/CIO to the Sierra Club. Larry Williams became the organizations first executive director.
All of Oregon's coastline was protected and made public from the sand dunes to the seashore; Oregon's bottle bill became the first in the nation and eliminated pull top lids on soda cans; French Pete and other precious vistas and places were designated wilderness; Trojan Nuclear Power was demolished after cost overruns made it too prohibitive to continue operating due to the safeguards promoted by OEC.
Larry Williams joined President Carter's Administration in 1978; International Director of the Sierra Club; developed the Pelosi Amendment; established environmental standards based on NEPA for international banking operations. A life time working to protect the environment.
