“Mycoflora and Biochemical Alterations During Chronic Aflatoxicosis in Domestic Rabbits”
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Consumption of feed contaminated with aflatoxin (7.5 mg/kg) by young rabbits for 90 days caused significant rises in intracellular calcium concentrations in liver, kidney, adipose tissues, heart and skeletal mus cle, but failed to cause a significant rise in the testis. While aflatoxin treatment caused non-significant increases in magnesium and inorganic phosphorous contents in liver, kidney testis and adipose tissue, there were significant reductions in heart and skeletal muscle. The calcium/ magnesium ratio also increased during aflatoxincosis in all organs studied. We suggest that the intracellular rise in calcium and the higher calcium/magnesium ratio might be responsible for aflatoxin induced cytotoxicities.
