The Effect of Teaching Coherence on Writing Quality

This book is about the effect of Teaching Coherence on Writing Quality. Coherence has five elements: Local Coherence, Macrostructure, Cohesion, Information Structure, and Metadiscourse. Teaching these five elements explicitly leads to improving the quality of the essay writing. The method of teaching follows five steps: Introductory activities, Explicit Teaching, Students Handouts, Manipulation Exercises, and Writing Practice. Following these steps was found to effective and enhanced the students' skills by helping them produce relevant, consistent, and coherent essays.
