ACMC 2004

Welcome to Ghost in the Machine - the 2004 Australasian Computer Music Association Conference. In a field so defined by technology as ours, it is easy to become bogged down in the technicalities of the art and its tools, and to assume that we as artists and composers have the ultimate control or ownership over the sounds that we are producing. It is with this in mind that we have chosen to celebrate the Ghost in the Machine, that intangible something that is beyond our control, that gives life to sounds, enables them to transcend the purely physical and psychoacoustic, and become capable of communication beyond our immediate realities. Here our sounds take on a life and purpose of their own as they transport our experience beyond the mundane.
