Sentinels and Saviors of the Sea – A Collection of United States Coast Guard History, Volume 1 – provides an historical overview of various aspects of the service’s rich history. The thirty short histories explore the determination, daring, and dedication to duty of the men and women of the United States Coast Guard and its predecessor services from the earliest days of the nation to present. Included are short histories that highlight heroic rescues, law enforcement, war-time operations, missions of mercy, technological innovations, seminal events, and the triumphs and tragedies that have proliferated throughout the service’s two hundred and twenty year history. This volume includes a host of archival photographs, copious footnotes, and a detailed source listing for each chapter.
