An extensively researched and incredibly thorough study, in the English language, of the Roman liturgy. Comparing it completely with other Western liturgies (Gallican; Ambrosian; Mozarabic) as well as with the Eastern liturgies, Fr. Fortescue cites thoroughly in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, along with references to English, French, German, Italian, Syriac, Arabic, and other sources, to explain the origin of the Roman liturgy. His conclusion shows a love of all the Church's liturgies, but especially of his own Roman rite, finding that the Roman rite is the most ancient of the Church's liturgies, and that its austere simplicity provides a unique and beautiful expression of our Faith.
