The ability of indoor plants in improving indoor air quality has been studied and proved by various scientific organizations including NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), USA. NASA recommends one indoor plant per 100 square feet area for maximum air purifying benefits of indoor gardening. According to NASA clean air study project, there are significant differences among the plants in its ability to remove airborne volatile organic compounds (VOC) or toxic gases. According to them, the following indoor plants are highly beneficial in indoor environments: Aloe vera, Areca palm, Anthuriums, Boston ferns, Rhapis palm or Broad lady palm (Bamboo palm) , Chrysanthemums, Chinese evergreens (Aglonema), Dieffenbachia or Dumb canes, English ivy, Gerbera daisy, Money plant (pothos), Orchids, Peace lily, Philodendrons, Red-edged dracaena, Rubber plant , Spider plant, Snake plant, Schefflera spp., Weeping fig and other indoor plants from ficus species and dwarf date palm or phoenix palm.
