TRANSREGIONAL AESTHETICS

"Transregional Aesthetics" is an exhibition gathering 7 artists working in London, Berlin, Denmark, Los Angeles and New York whose collective practices challenge histories of abstraction, ornament, representation, and nature, engaging both rural and urban contexts. Using the gallery's location as a framing device, the exhibition considers the 20th century American art movement, Regionalism as a counterpoint. Self- proclaimed "enemies of Modernism", Regionalist artists rejected the avant-garde, the grid, and abstraction, instead favoring "small-town values", representation, and the American Pastoral landscape. Grant Wood's paintings depicting impregnated fields, or Thomas Hart Benton's paintings of cotton pickers are typical of this vision.
