Hindenburg, the German Accident Report

Translated in full for the very first time, this is the original confidential German report into the accident to the Hindenburg airship at Lakehurst in May 1937, from a copy held in the Nigel Caley collection. It details the various trials and the results of the German Commission's research effort into understanding what caused the fire. A separate Translator's Annex includes an account of the Hindenburg's final approach to Lakehurst by Albert Sammt, the pilot at the time of the disaster. Another paper from the Nigel Caley collection, prepared by the German Investigation Commission in 1938 details their recommendations for making the LZ 130 safer for operations with hydrogen. Finally a helium timeline charts significant dates and events in the search for a safer alternative to hydrogen as a lifting gas.
