In Cinderella the Cat, Pluto the Paraplegic Dog, and Foreign Stories of Hope Fulfilled, the author, Alexandra George, becomes involved in rescuing dogs when she witnesses the terrible lives that befall street dogs in the countries where she is posted. This includes Georgia in the Caucasus, Iraq, Sierra Leone and Kosovo (in ex-Yugoslavia). When the author returns to work in Kosovo in 2009, she and a friend decide to establish a voluntary association, Hope for the Street Dogs of Kosovo. Soon around 80 street dogs find homes in the U.S., Germany, Netherlands and Austria thanks to Hope’s networking skills. Written in a light, entertaining style, the chapters are filled with rags to riches stories. Alexandra George has already published three books, and is a journalist and translator. She works in international media and public affairs. She is fluent in English, French, and Russian and knows German. The author lives with her rescued dogs and two cats.
